The final outcome of the wool ball sculptures. As you can see, the result after glazing shows very well. Each of them holds the shape strongly and hollow inside. The gap in between the strings is really thin and delicate. So when I took them into a darker environment and the light could through. The sculptures are glowing. That's surprise to me.
Took photography outside and put them into context. The ground had water so it gives a beautiful reflection to the image. The black ground and the white sculptures make a perfect contrast, also has a strong visual impact.
There are other six of the sculptures are not been glazed, however, I mean to not to. I feel without the glossy cover or the black line, the sculptures look great as well. It's simpler and the texture shows more obviously. The snow flakes on the black back ground have a similar texture style with the sculpture.
I do have couple of successful images to show the structure, the texture and the details of the sculptures, however, I don't think that's enough, I just feel there still missing something to present my works. Then I back to the meaning of them, back to what they represent to me.
The wool ball sculptures means to represent the past of everyone, our past can be messy, struggled
and might full of regret. The past can be a negative power to us sometimes, the past always there, it tries to drag us into it and drown. Everyone carries their past everyday, sometimes it makes us forget that we are living at the moment which is right now. If we keep holding our past, how could we enjoy right now? So I think we should free our past then move on. The sculptures are representing the past, I want to create a ceremony to free it.
There are few plans been considered. Throw the ball to the wall, use hammer smash the ball or just drop the ball. Reconsidering the meaning of free, it supposes to be a very calm way to let the ball go. Thus, I decided to free the ball into the river and let it go by the river stream.
The ceremony shows as the video above. The weather added some romantic vibe into the scene as well. I have to say the idea is brilliant. Now I feel this project finally been completed. When I watching the ball floating away bit by bit, I feel it works. Feels like I really freed my past and peacefully. The ducks and geese are swimming around the ball then just passing by, it wasn't bother any creatures on the world. The only person who been bothered by our past is only ourselves, so just free your past and let it go.
