After the unsuccessful screen print test I thought how I could improve the image? I want something could represent the pattern of time which is the wools, but not messy at the same time. It needs to have a flowing shape and gaps in between.
Shall I make a screen by the actual wools, not just transfer the images on to the screen like what I did all the time before?
As you can see, I did it. Use the actual wools to make an organic shape which I feel it's good then transfer it on the screen. I am quite happy that the technician welling to teach me the technic. So for the future projects if I want to make a screen I know what I should do.
Then print it out which is so excited!
So for the material that I choose to print on, I am not only printing on paper, I find some plastic cards with glossy on the surface as well. I do like the image a lot to be honest. The edges got really fine details of the strings, the little gaps and textures in the middle makes the white part isn't boring and also building the connection with the whole image. Should I add something on the top or print another layer?
Then I found an artist David Carson.
AIGA eye on design:
August 2019
"David Carson is a man who has transformed the field of graphic design throughout his career. Self-taught, resolutely grid-free, and unafraid to speak his mind (he’s also very funny), Carson’s work made designers realize that editorial layouts didn’t have to stick to the rules around image placement, consistent typography, or doggedly flowing copy issue after issue.
The reason why I like his design is that the letters are not only letters on his design surface. For my understanding that the colour, fond and size of the letters could be elements which to create images. The shapes of the letters are images as well. That kind of inspired me and lead me to take my image further.
There are the words which I took out from Love Song. The poetry goes through with my whole project and give me the idea about the nerves of time and the pattern on the wall. I mean, if you read this poetry you will have more connections with them words. They represent how the writer afraid of the time passing by, any regrets, anything undone and all the some fictions of life that could measure time, such as coffee spoons, tea, cake, mornings, evening.
Also been inspired by David Carson, as you can see the image above, I added the words on the top of the image, the words kind of give the image extra life, it looks like a map, map of time, map of emotions and map of life.
Then the question is coming, how I add the words one? Print? Stamp? I guess I need to test more then find it out!
