As ceramic making is always my passion, so I would like to take these cute pompoms further to explore. I would like to change what it is but still keep the form. Like how I did with the ceramic dumplings, however with pompoms it's a big challenge. How I can keep all the texture of the wools but also change it to ceramics?
( Design Sketch)
After a discussion with the technician, we find a solution. Use the hair spray to spray the pompoms first to make it stronger and also sticky, then deep it into clay, also make sure each string covered enough clay.
The process as you can see from the videos above.
I prepared three different forms of the wools, not only pompoms, so that will helps me to see which one actually works and have more choices at the next step.
After the first fire, I have to say this process is quite successful. All the texture stayed and you can see the details very well. The only thing I don't like is the sculpture are solid, not hollow as my planed before. If they are hollow the light may through the gap between the strings. However, it won't come true at this experiment. Even though I still like the forms I made, it's something new and I never seen before. For the glazing plan, I will follow my " simple is the best" rule as always. I highlighted couple of the strings to black to make the contrast, also the black strings kind of represent people's time line, we are all finding, chasing and searching our time line from this messy world. Then just spray the other parts all clear.
For the next step, find a way to make the form hollow and also re thinking the glazing plan after seeing the result.
