The ceramic cogs come out this week. The cog of time.
This is the first form I made which is quite simple and thin also with no texture on it. It just a test to see if I could make a cog form by handmaking. However, as you can see, it's not a great form. The cog feels like too weak and crooked. Feels like it's a cog who haven't been feed enough.
Even thought, the form is failed but the glazing worked quite well, especially under a strong light, the shinning effect even shows in the shadow.
Zoomed in and see the details, there are something really interesting. The glazing shows a orange and pink colour with some purple at the same time. In the corner, you could see some little tiny bobbles which gives a fun texture.
The second form has much more improved. It looks like a well grown cog now. I do like the glazing I choose which are both matte, it gives the cog a heavy feeling, at the same time the colour are so bright and light, that makes a great contrast.
Seeing the shadow on the white background likes a sad and smile face. It likes a person, acts strong and happy all the time, but no one knows his real feelings.
Take a close looking of the cog, the part without any glazing is important for this sculpture. The dark blue, light blue and white, they are working and spreading very well together. However, you do feel the empty part kind of gives your eyes a break when you stare at the sculpture.
After the experiment that I know I could make the cogs and complete the performance plan- Broke the Past then Create the Future by Smashing a Mount of Cogs. After the process of wools and pompoms, I do feel I have more passion of that idea. So I make the decision which is dump this cogs and continue the wools experiment.
During the project keeps moving and the results keep showing, I do have more choices and directions to expend the project, that's a good thing which is a way to improve my decision making.
