First project for our first year of foundation fine art. We had a lovely day trip to Newstead Abbey. It's a pleasure to see the lace artworks and lace clothes which all have hundreds years history. The building is definitely a piece of art by itself.
To be honest, I am not a big fan of lace, I thought it's a kind of label that binds women's freedom, women wear lace clothes even underwears, they are not comfortable, maybe only wear it for attractive or wear it only because as a woman.
However, when I saw the piece of ceramic with lace texture on it, it just took all my attention. I never thought we could transfer the lace pattern into ceramic before. How the artist did it? Could I make something inspired by that?
Also, we picked some natural elements from the garden and did some experiments on photogram and cyanotype.
I added a piece of lace to make a contrast for the image. It turns out quite well and I like them. Still needs to think about what I could explore more from that? Anything inspiring me?
Once we got home from the trip, I found a old lace bra I haven't wear them for a decade. Just as I said before, why women wear this kind of uncomfortable extra thing for our lives. It does look beautiful though. So I would like to try to use this piece of lace to create something.
