By almost two months time, we been exploring, creating and inspiring around Lace. Now, it's the end of this project. Before I start the evaluation by words, I would like to show you my final display of the project, in case you feel bored by my writing.
During the whole project I did documenting and recording all my works and ideas step by step until the end.
As we continued the process, I found my themes of lace and what lace means to me. I feel lace is a very interesting material. It's delicate and also has strength. The meaning of lace for me it's not physical. It can protect our emotions and constraint our minds as well. Once I identified the theme, the project been keep moving and I created a mount of works.
I tried a rang of materials during the whole project, such as ceramic, plastic, gel print, screen printing, photogram, cyanotype, lino print.
Research about lace's history in China and how lace impact Chinese fabric history. Also researched a rang of artists work to inspired me and took my own project further, by skills, concepts and forms.
For this project, I had improved my screen printing skill, which is I am capable to create a clean image with sharp edges, last year I couldn't do it. I did try a new skill to make sculpture and no needs to hollow it after. I used all the materials safely and sensible for my process.
However, I feel I suppose to explore other ways to create my works as well, such as cyanotype and oil painting.
For the choice making, as you can see the image above, I actually have more than that, however, I only picked them as a group work to display by the end. The group work, it has the abstract lace and actual lace. It has easy forms and complex forms. It has simple images and layered images. However, I do feel the white frames should be taken off though. They look a bit extra.
Overall, I did really enjoy this project. I have more freedom for creating my works and got a lot of supports and advises from all the tutors. I feel like that I have more confidence than last year.
One project is end, next one is waiting at the corner. Many things need me to improve and explore.
