This week Lucy as our guest to tell us her journey about art and her inspirations of her art works. Lucy actually as a study supporter in our class who shows up once a week, so we kind of know her, however, I never got a chance to listen to her to introduce herself and explain her art works, I do interested about her works from day one. Thus, this week's talk makes me more excited then other talks.
Lucy's art journey is quite interesting. She learned performance art for her A level, so she was planned to be an actor at the beginning, and she did put her on stage. Then, for her BA she recognize that she is more into different materials, so she did fine art for her BA. After she graduated, she felt there's less opportunities for her. She worked at commercial galleries as well, however, she didn't enjoy it at all. By the time, she found out that she is more enjoying to help people which made her into her educations career for 17 years.
Then the time brings tot her recent years, she feels that her life missing a piece which is the piece as a creative artist and she always loves to do. As we know, this reason leading her to do what she is doing right now, master fine art at NTU.
So she is back on her path to keep create art works and she is doing brilliant!
Before this talk, I been seeing her art works on line. I been attracting by her works a lot by the ideas, forms, materials and the process. After hear her telling the story by herself, suddenly everything makes sense now.
So Lucy finds her inspiration from her own miscarriage experience which is quite sad. As a woman and a mom, I could feel her pain. And the different forms about her works are inspired by oosperm. The material she uses is silicone. To be honest, I thought all her works are made by glass until she said silicone. That kind of blow my mind! Materials do have magic!
The forms of her works, I know they are not actual forms in the nature world, however, by her hands, I do believe they are exist( especially the second image). Through her works, I could feel the great of nature by breed, the fragile of nature by new life and the sacrifice of female by bleeding. I think Lucy is a brave woman that she uses her own experience as her inspirations which means every time she sees her works or making more works will reminds her what she been through. That's so cruel to herself!
After 17 years, Lucy decided to back to study art again, that's also a brave decision. I guess once art in your blood, you never could get rid of it!
