As you can see, I made a mount of ceramic dumplings and their size just exactly same as the real ones. Means to think about, if the material changes then the subject changed or not? Are they still dumplings? Or they are not any more?
Then I made three bigger size of dumplings. Kind of changed the structure of them. For the process I filled them with papers inside to hold the shape. My thought is, if people don't know the shape of dumplings, would they consider this is a good shape of sculptures? It has the texture from folding the clay, one side this thick other is thin and extended. For mine eyes, I judged they have a standard shape of sculptures. Then I thought glazed them, use colour or pattern to make them even less looking like dumplings.
I love the effect of the dripping. It makes a strong contrast with the white. However, I feel the plate and the back ground still" locked the dumplings in the dumplings world." So I changed the context.
Arranged them on the rocks outside, give them a natural feeling. The hue of the images, one is cold, other is warmer. I do like the first one more. Because the background darker, we can draw more attentions on the sculpture.
So, slightly changed the subject's structure could change the subject.
