This week our guest talker is so different, at least that's how I think about him. Chris Lewis- Jones sees himself as a flaneur. During the talk I definitely understand what's this word mean. It's a perfect world for describing Chris. A man who is free both in body and in his mind, by the same time the art spirit is all over him.
There isn't a sing could limit his creativities! He does everything, music, drawing, performance, writing, teaching... He doesn't have a day job, however, he manages his life very well finically. How he did it? And during the talk, I just remembered that I joined few of his community singing event through the Covid pandemic, unfortunately he moved to Derby now, hope I could join his events again someday.
There's this kind of artists, that after you knowing him in person and you been attracted by his personality and passion, then you as audience will more get into his art works. I think Chris is that kind of artist for me.
I really do like his frottage works. Pick a big roll of paper and a graph stick and bring yourself walking around the village, frottage the roads, the walls, the stones. That's romantic and excited! The marks on the paper is a live documentary of your journey, your life.
What I have learned from Chris's experiences?
Chris as an success and independent artist, I think the key word is be true. He doesn't pretend to be any kind of artist or follow any style. He is showing his true self then his art works are coming alone with, and the works are stunning. He spreads his passion to the community and share his passion of art. Use his personality to effect everyone. I think that's all I should learn from him. Not afraid to show the real me, not afraid to show my emotions and experiences by art works.
