Inspired Painting

(Natalia Goncharova 1881- 1962

Three Young Woman 1920

Oil paint on canvas)

"The artist described this painting as showing 'Three half- length female figures'. Goncharova said the different colours and shading are the result of 'the play of sunlight and reflections of a sandy path(yellowish- orange) and orange red'. Rather than paint three women as we might recognise them, Goncharova describes them as an idea, responding to styles of painting at the time."

Do a painting of this project is always on my to do list. However, drawing doesn't same as other process or experiment, when there is no inspirations, nothing you can paint. While I visited Tate Liverpool, I found this painting hanging there and it deeply grabbing my eyes. I can see there are three body shapes been laying together outright. I love the different yellow the artist used there, the different tones give the painting a depth also in an abstract way. This is exactly what I need!

Back home, the first thing I did it's finding out the sections/ different parts of my body from the photography I took before. Then started to paint.

Sections of Myself

As you can see, same ideas and same colour tone, the result is completely different.

I feel so excited when I completed this. It's abstract, but you still can see the body shapes. The position looks a bit of weird, but it can grab your eye balls, it's kind of weird in a good way. I do like the way how I lay the colours and brush marks. The colours are very settling, not floating, the brush marks are bold and relaxing at the same time. However, the relaxing is giving this painting an energy.

Closer and seeing the details. I do like the bright blue I used for high lighting. The whole painting I actually didn't use any out lines of the shapes, the shapes all building by brush marks and colours, by the end I feel there needs something to clear the depth and the shapes, overall, the blue is definitely a right decision.

After this inspiring painting process makes think that I could draw as well, I just haven't find the right style or I don't believe that I could draw at all. At least, now I know that I can draw, and my painting has my emotions on it, brave, bold and female power. Should I take this painting further? Into what?
